Here lately Pastor has been teaching on the thought life.  How it happens, how it affects, and he will soon teach on how to tear down the strongholds in our thought life. 

This morning as I reading, I came across Hebrews 4:12.  I knew the verse, but always put emphasis on the word of God being sharper than any two-edged sword.  I knew it was powerful, but I never saw the application of which its power can be used.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

So we see that the purpose of the sword can split things in half, but let’s put emphasis here at the end.  It is “able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart”.  This is the physical applicable power of the Word of God.  It judges our hearts, our thoughts, and motives.

I ministered to a man a few days ago, and he told me he wanted to follow the will of God.  Separate himself and listen intently to the Holy Spirit.  So I encouraged him and told him to do as David did; pray that God will “search” him, and “know” him.  But the question came to me, how do we search and know our thoughts.  Our answer is right here…simply through the reading and studying of the word.

It has the power to separate our soul (our thoughts, will, and emotion) from our spirit (what communes with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).  It has the power to kill our old self, and judge (or sentence) our thoughts and intentions.

So the next time you don’t know exactly where to turn to, get deep into the word of God and watch how you can’t help but be changed.
